Which Hardware Do I Need?

Document printer

For the optimal use of our plug-ins, we recommend the use of a network printer that supports the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP). This is the case for most network printers, and you can usually find information on this in the manual of your printer.

The printer should have two different compartments for A4 paper formats for delivery notes as well as invoices and A5/A6 for shipping labels so that documents of these formats can be printed. Different printers can also be used for each format. In addition, when using several Pickware WMS devices, it is possible to use different printers for each.

If your printer is not network-compatible or does not support IPP, or if you want to print with Windows, you can use a print server.

Label printer

In the same way, it is possible to connect a label printer (e.g. Zebra or Dymo) for shipping labels. For their connection, with the introduction of the new printer service, we use the printing language of the manufacturer Zebra (ZPL), which is also supported by other manufacturers such as Brother.

iPhone / iPod / iPad

Our apps for Pickware POS and Pickware WMS are only available for iOS, so iOS-enabled devices are required. You need at least iOS 15 for Pickware WMS and iOS 12 or higher for the other apps to benefit from the latest security updates.

The following Apple models are supported:

  • iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, iPhone 8, iPhone 13, iPhone 14 and iPod Touch 7th. generation (2019)
  • iPad Pro 9,7", iPad Pro 10,5", iPad Pro 11", iPad Pro 12,9", iPad Air 2, iPad Air 3, iPad mini 4 - 5 and iPad 5th and 6th generation (iPad 9,7")

If you use iPhones, you can also operate Pickware via the mobile network (UMTS & LTE) and therefore do not necessarily need Wi-Fi. This is particularly useful for mobile sales via POS, e.g. at trade fairs. iPod Touches, on the other hand, are much cheaper to purchase. Otherwise, there are no differences in the functionality of Pickware. 

With Pickware POS, the use of iPads is recommended for stationary tills, whereas iPods or iPhones can also be used for mobile tills.

For Pickware WMS you need an iPod or iPhone which, with the appropriate case, is used as a barcode scanner for scanning. 

The number of devices required depends on the number of employees in your warehouse or shop. To be able to use Pickware in the best possible way throughout the entire process chain, we recommend equipping each workstation with one device. We also recommend an additional device as a backup for peak loads.

WMS barcode scanner

For Pickware WMS we recommend the use of an appropriate scanner cover. You can find the right scanner cover, protective cover and charging station for your Apple device in our hardware shop. Cash drawer / Receipt printer / Customer display

You can find the hardware we recommend for operating your POS system with Pickware POS in our hardware shop. We also offer complete POS sets that contain everything you need to equip your shop.

POS barcode scanner

For faster checkout, the use of a barcode scanner is a practical solution. We currently offer two different types: 

  • The POS Barcode Scanner connects to the cash drawer or receipt printer via USB cable and ensures that you always have both hands free for scanning.
  • If, on the other hand, you often attend trade fairs and are looking for a mobile cash register, the POS Hand Scanner may be more suitable for you, as it can be connected to your iPad or iPod via Bluetooth.

Card reader / Zettle by Paypal Reader

If you want to offer card payments in your shop, you need either the Zettle by Paypal Reader or another ZVT device. With Zettle by Paypal, you also benefit from the fact that the amount to be paid is automatically transferred from the POS app to the device.
